Craps Rules

The craps game is a casino game that uses dice and allows many options for betting for the player. The game of craps was said to have originated from the English game hazard that was played even during the time of the crusades. It is not clear whether it was the French or the English that brought craps to the United States, but the game of craps became a popular casino game in New Orleans by the 1800.

Since then new developments changed the face of how craps was played. Most significant of which was the inclusion by John H. Winn of a Don’t Pass bet that enabled players to bet for the casino thereby minimizing cheating. This garnered John H. Winn the recognition of being the Father of Modern Craps.

Playing craps maybe confusing at first but once you’ve gotten used to the rules; the game becomes fun and exciting to play. To start a game of craps the players are asked to bet on either the Pass line or Don’t pass bets on the come-out roll or the first dice roll of every round.

The Pass line wager triumphs if the number 11 or 7 is rolled on the first roll of the round. If the craps dice rolls a 3, 2 and 12, called craps, then Pass line wager loses. However, if the craps dice rolls any of the other numbers like 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10 then that is a point. The point must be rolled first before the number 7 or else the Pass line wager loses.

The Don’t pass bet in craps is the opposite of the Pass line wager. The Don’t pass bet wins if the number 2 and 3 will be rolled, it is a push or a tie if the 12 is rolled and any number in between is a point. If the 7 is rolled first before the point then the Don’t pass bet of craps wins.

Remember, that the Pass line wager and the Don’t pass line bet takes effect only in a come-out roll. If the roll of the dice is not a come-out roll then players may wager the Come and Don’t Come bets of craps which are the same as the Pass line and Don’t pass bets.

The Pass line bettors are called the right bettors as it is perceived that more craps players bet on this than on the Don’t pass bet. The Don’t pass bettors are called the wrong bettors. Craps players take turns in becoming the shooter or the roller of the dice.
